FAQ

  • There are many different therapeutic approaches in the field of psychology. Some lean towards addressing thoughts or behavior while others dive deep into our family origins and history. Seeking Biblically-based counseling means, regardless of the therapeutic approach, you won’t have to choose between your faith and an effective therapeutic relationship. In my years of practice, I have found that many of the things that work in therapy are really just iterations of biblical truths and principles. God has so much to say about managing anxiety, overcoming depression, and healing relational strife. Christian therapy isn’t just therapy with a “Christian flavor”, its an integrative approach that brings harmony between the Word of God and sound psychological principles to bring about hope and healing.

  • This is a big question! Let’s start off by clarifying that God has, does, and will always continue to work in our lives to bring hope and healing in both everyday and miraculous ways. However, there’s a misconception, particularly in Christian circles, that needing therapy is the result of “small faith” or a sort of spiritual failing. “If only I had more faith or trust in God, then I wouldn’t need therapy or outside help”. Sound familiar? The truth is quite the opposite. It’s no secret that we all experience periods of difficulty and struggle but God has given us His Spirit and His church, in particular His people, to walk alongside us in those seasons. A psychological approach rooted in biblical truth helps us to better understand and respond to the mental health challenges and relational issues we may experience. As the body of Christ, we are called to carry each other’s burdens. Entering into a therapeutic relationship with an empathetic Christian therapist can not only uphold your faith but strengthen it in times of struggle.

  • The process and length of therapy will differ for every individual, couple, and family. Thankfully, there is no rigid timeline since much of the length of therapy is dependent on need and circumstances. However, in most cases, I find that individuals can experience a significant sense of hope and optimism within the first several sessions as they refine and begin to work towards their goals. Rest assured that whether you’re in therapy for several weeks or more long-term, we’ll work together to collaboratively determine the right treatment plan to bring about insight and positive change.

  • You can expect me to meet you where you’re at. I allow you, as the client, to lead the way. Creating your goals and envisioning a future filled with hope and promise. I will listen to you with empathy and compassion and value you as you are. I’m highly relational and strength-based in my approach and will challenge you to shift your perspective to find joy, peace and hope. More than anything, I will strive to create a sacred space where you can feel the healing presence of God in the midst of your anxiety, pain, or difficulty.

God can't give us peace and happiness apart from Himself because there is no such thing.
